Fun, fresh, and juicy, a Watermelon Fruit Pizza will wow your kids and guests at any backyard party.

Get out your sunglasses and beach towel… Summer’s here! And we’re in that beautiful window when whole, fresh watermelons are at their very best. Between June and August, you can expect to find whole watermelons at the market that are heavy, sweet, bright red, and rich in Vitamin C and lycopene.

When it comes to this fresh fruit snack, let’s be real. Watermelons taste like candy without any embellishment at all. But if you’re looking for something even more fun and elegant to do with that juicy red melon this summer, try a Watermelon Fruit Pizza!

This colorful confection is free of added sugars and filled with vitamins, fiber, and flavor. You can really customize it to look and taste how you choose, but we think it’s best topped with freshly whipped cream and ripe summer berries.

Kids can hardly resist biting into this fun fruit treat that LOOKS like a pizza, but tastes like dessert! And how about you? Would you turn down a slice? I didn’t think so.

Making Watermelon Fruit Pizza

This recipe is perfect to make with your kids, because it’s all about the artistic assembly. And what kid isn’t a natural artist?

The main step that’s just for grownups is the slicing the watermelon “crust.” It’s not hard  do, but it does require a large knife, which can be unwieldy even for kids who have been practicing their knife skills.

Start by slicing a watermelon in half. Then use a bread knife to carefully saw a disc about one inch thick.

Once you’ve cut the “crust,” spread the whipped cream “sauce” on top of the watermelon. Leave some space near the rind so it’s easy for little hands to hold the slices.

Now it’s topping time. Be creative, and have fun! A sprinkle of shredded coconut looks convincingly like cheese and is a good addition before adding the fresh fruit slices.

Try fresh summer berries like blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries. A sprinkle of fresh mint pairs perfectly with watermelon, and looks so pretty.

When you’re done adding toppings, carefully slice the pizza into eight even slices. It’s easy! Just use your bread knife to cut straight across the diameter of the pizza four times.

Enjoy this summery treat, and if you dream up a fresh new topping, tell us what you tried in the comments!
