Great Source of Protein for Kids
Greek yogurt is a great source of protein. Greek yogurt contains nearly triple the amount of protein as regular yogurt because of the way it is made (straining) which is why Greek yogurt has a much thicker consistency. One cup of Greek yogurt has close to 23 grams of protein!
Greek yogurt is one source of protein I feel good about feeding my kids on the regular. One reason I love Greek yogurt for kids is that it is easy to digest. The culturing process makes it easier to digest than milk because the live and active cultures break down the milk’s sugar lactose into glucose and galactose, two ingredients that are easily absorbed.
What is the difference between Pumpkin Pie Filling and Pumpkin Puree?
Pumpkin puree is just cooked, pureed pumpkin. Typically nothing else is added to it. Pumpkin Pie filling is pureed pumpkin that is flavored with spices like cinnamon, clove, allspice and ginger, and is also sweetened.
I like buying pumpkin puree for my recipes because then I can flavor it however I want depending on what I’m making. You can also make your own pumpkin puree!

Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake for Kids
Ingredients
- 1 cup Greek vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 Tbsp maple syrup
- 1 medium banana frozen
- 10 each ice cubes more if you want a thicker shake
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth!

Yum! I have made pumpkin shakes like this but I never thought to put brown sugar in them. I’ll have to try this.
I made your white chili again this week. So good! It is now my daughter’s favorite meal.
This is a great shake. You can also add a handful of raw spinach. It doesn’t change the color much, can’t be tasted, and adds a little extra vegetable for the day.

I have all the ingredients right now! Speaking of shakes and smoothies, do you have any tips on packing them in a school lunch – what kind of container would work best?
Is it for an older child who could handle drinking out of a glass container? How about a mason jar? Depending on your blender, you can even blend the smoothie right in the mason jar. (Regular-mouth jars are compatible with many blender blades/bases.)

I have found that these old standby’s are the best for smoothies in lunches. There are spill-proof mugs that you can buy at Costco. They are meant for coffee, but could work for any drink. You can literally throw them in a bag and nothing leaks. They keep drinks hot for 4 hours or cold for 12 hours. They are made by Contigo. They’re metal, come in different colours and have screw on lids that have an autoseal button that you press so that the drink will come out. We can even get them here in Canada. Best invention ever!!!
