Making Watermelon Fruit Pizza
This recipe is perfect to make with your kids, because it’s all about the artistic assembly. And what kid isn’t a natural artist?
The main step that’s just for grownups is the slicing the watermelon “crust.” It’s not hard do, but it does require a large knife, which can be unwieldy even for kids who have been practicing their knife skills.
Start by slicing a watermelon in half. Then use a bread knife to carefully saw a disc about one inch thick.
Once you’ve cut the “crust,” spread the whipped cream “sauce” on top of the watermelon. Leave some space near the rind so it’s easy for little hands to hold the slices.
Now it’s topping time. Be creative, and have fun! A sprinkle of shredded coconut looks convincingly like cheese and is a good addition before adding the fresh fruit slices.
Try fresh summer berries like blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries. A sprinkle of fresh mint pairs perfectly with watermelon, and looks so pretty.
When you’re done adding toppings, carefully slice the pizza into eight even slices. It’s easy! Just use your bread knife to cut straight across the diameter of the pizza four times.

- 1 whole watermelon
- 1 pint heavy whipping cream
- 6 ounces blackberries
- 6 ounces blueberries
- 1 pound strawberries
- 1 sprig fresh mint
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- Carefully saw the watermelon into one or more 1-inch round slabs. Slice about 5 strawberries for each pizza you plan to make. Chop the mint.
- Use a high-speed blender or an electric mixer to whip cream and vanilla just until firm (don’t over-mix, or you’ll get butter!)
- Spread whipped cream on the watermelon “crust,” then top with berries and mint.
- Cut each pizza into eight equal slices and serve immediately.
