Healthy Life Incentives

I love our public school teachers!  And this year, in my work with Gold Medal schools, we are required to plan a staff wellness program.  So, this is what we came up with:

FLAB-U-LESS  FEBRUARY!

For the entire staff at my kids elementary school, we laid out some ideas that could earn them tickets, and improve health at the same time. They’ll put their name on the back of a ticket, every time they accomplish one of the following, and put it in a jar:

One ticket for each of the following:

  • 30 minutes of exercise (one entry per day)
  • Eating 5 fruits and vegetables (one entry per day)
  • Drink 8 glasses of water (or 64 oz) (one entry per day)
  • Abstaining from Caffeine for one whole day (chocolate not included)!! (one entry per day)
  • Abstaining from sugary sweets (chocolate IS included) (one entry per day)
  • Abstaining from carbonation for one whole day! (one entry per day)
  • Sleep at least 7 hours at night (one entry per day)
  • Take a multi-vitamin (one entry per day)
  • LOSE 1 LB!! (one entry per pound lost)
  • If you are a smoker… quit for one day (two entries per day)

Then, the best part: At the end of February, we are going to hold a drawing with all the tickets. GRAND PRIZE $50!!!  Don’t those teachers deserve that! I’m so excited to get started.

So, of course we decided to do this at home!

We got a jar:

Put a roll of tickets out (best $4 we ever spent… we use them all the time)

Set out the rules.  One ticket with your name on the back, each time you do one of the following:

  • Eat 5 fruits and vegetables that day
  • Play outside for 10 or more minutes
  • Jump rope (regular or Chinese jump rope)
  • Eat a vegetable with dinner
  • Drink water
  • Brush teeth (in the morning… cause that’s when they forget)
  • Get to bed by 8pm
  • Take vitamins

The best part: I will at random, without warning, and completely by surprise draw a ticket out. Whosever’s name is on the ticket… I’ll spend an hour doing an activity of their choice.  I already know, Erica will choose a craft, TJ will choose chess, and Nate will choose a board game.  But I think they will get really excited by this!
