How to Make Healthy Baked Apples
Making these cute baked apples is very simple, with only about 10 minutes of hands-on time. (You will have to endure around 40 minutes of wait-time while your apples bake, and your kitchen fills with magnificent smells. So plan accordingly for that.)
To start, mix all the ingredients except for the apples in a medium mixing bowl. It’s OK to use your hands! This mixture will be your streusel. It’ll be pretty crumbly when you’re done, and that’s fine.
Next, prep your apples. The best apples to use for baking are very crisp varieties, like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Braeburn, or Cripps Pink. (Really the recipe works just fine with most apples, but I’d avoid Red Delicious, which can get a little mealy in the oven.)
Core the apples, slice them in half, and place them in a baking dish. Scoop a small amount of your prepared streusel into the middle of each apple, packing it down slightly.

- 1/4 cup oats, dry
- 1/4 cup flour, all-purpose
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger, ground
- 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 2 tablespoon butter, unsalted
- 4 medium apple
- 4 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a bowl add the first 7 ingredients, and use your hands to mix well.
- Core the apples, and cut each in half. Place them in a baking dish, face up, and fill each apple with an even amount of oats. Pack it lightly until heaped over the top. Drizzle with cream. Bake for 40 minutes or until filling is golden and apple is soft.
- Cool for 10 minutes, then serve; add more cream if desired.
