As a diehard blueberry lover, I take blueberry everything very seriously. I don’t waste my time on “meh” blueberry goods. Like those commercially prepared blueberry jams. Loaded with sugar that covers up the natural sweet tartness of the blueberries, those jams almost make you feel like you are eating candy instead of a fruit product! I don’t give those jams the time of day.
There’s no need to when you can make your own homemade jam quickly and easily, with none of the added refined sugars or preservatives the store bought stuff contains. Delicious, homemade blueberry jam can be yours for the sandwich slathering in under 20 minutes.

How to Make Blueberry Chia Jam
The secret to deliciously fresh blueberry jam is in the magically oh-so-healthy chia seed. These mighty little seeds transform from dry little dots into a clingy gelatin-like consistency when mixed with a liquid. Which is perfect for jam!
To make your jam, all you need is a saucepan and these three ingredients:
- fresh or frozen blueberries (Any kind will work, but the small “wild” blueberries are especially nice.
- pure maple syrup
- raw chia seeds
All you need to do is warm your blueberries and chia seeds in the saucepan until they’re simmering gently and the berries have broken down. After about ten minutes, you’ll notice the seeds have soaked up the berry juice and given the jam a thickened consistency.
At this point, stir in the maple syrup and you’re ready to serve!

How to Store Blueberry Chia Jam
Once your jam is done, let it cool and store it in a jar in your fridge. It should keep for up to two weeks.

Blueberry Chia Seed Jam
- 3 cup blueberries fresh or frozen
- 3 tablespoon chia seeds
- 3 tablespoon maple syrup, pure
- In a medium sauce pan, combine the blueberries and chia seeds. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat. Cover and cook until the blueberries start to break down and the jam thickens, about ten minutes. Stir occasionally.
- Using a potato masher or large fork, crush the berries to your desired texture. If you like a very smooth jam, you can use an immersion blender to puree the berries.
- Once the berries are mashed, stir in the maple syrup. You may serve the jam warm at this stage!
- Allow jam to cool before transferring it to an air tight container. Store in fridge for up to two weeks.
