Tips for the Best Slow Cooker Brisket

Choose the Right Cut

Look for a brisket that has some marbling. A little fat helps keep the meat juicy during the long cooking time.

Don’t Skip the Low and Slow Method

Cooking on low gives the brisket the most tender texture. High heat works in a pinch, but low heat is best.

Slice Against the Grain

If slicing instead of shredding, always cut against the grain for the most tender bite.

Toast the Buns

Toasted buns hold up better against the saucy brisket and add great texture.

Let the Brisket Rest

Let the brisket rest for a few minutes before shredding or slicing. This helps keep the meat juicy.

Sandwich Topping Ideas

These brisket sandwiches are delicious on their own, but toppings make them even better.

Try adding:

  • creamy coleslaw
  • dill pickles
  • pickled red onions
  • jalapeños
  • cheddar cheese
  • crispy onions
  • extra barbecue sauce
  • avocado slices

For kids, keep it simple with brisket, barbecue sauce, and a soft bun.

Easy Variations

Spicy Brisket Sandwiches

Add cayenne pepper, chipotle powder, or sliced jalapeños to the sauce.

Honey BBQ Brisket

Swap the brown sugar for honey for a sweeter sauce.

Smoky Brisket

Add a few drops of liquid smoke or extra smoked paprika.

Brisket Sliders

Serve on slider buns for parties, potlucks, or game day.

Brisket Bowls

Skip the bun and serve the brisket over rice, mashed potatoes, or roasted sweet potatoes.

Instructions

  • Pat the brisket dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over the brisket.
