There is a drink shop that started a few years ago near us that became really popular really quick. They basically only sell drinks and cookies and people would wait in line for 45 minutes to get something at this shop! They have expanded now and so the wait time is way less and it is not such a novelty anymore. One thing they have is called Bubble Tea. It is basically a creamy smoothie with bobas in it. Bobas are little round balls made out of tapioca. They are chewy and take on the flavor of whatever you have them in. You drink a bubble tea with a fat straw to suck them up with. Definitely something different and definitely fun!! You can also do a mixture of the tapioca bobas and bobas that are filled with fruit juice. Our recipe today is Strawberry Mango Bubble Tea. A fun way to serve fruit to your kids!!
This is what bobas look like before you cook them. To make them soft, you boil in water for 5 minutes. They will turn black and shiny, soften right up, and you can add them to your bubble tea! There are different colors of bobas if you want to add different colors. We just boiled ours in water, but if you want to add more flavor, you can boil in 100% juice. Our strawberry mango bubble tea is just strawberries, mango and milk. Our fruit was super sweet and so we didn’t need any extra sweetener. This Strawberry Mango Bubble Tea Recipe is great because you can add other things, use other fruits and have fun creating your own flavors of bubble tea!
The other important thing when making bubble tea is that you need a fat straw! Your kids will think it is fun to drink bubble tea because they will get a surprise every time they take a drink!
