What are Protein Bites?
Protein bites are little round balls full with nutrients, made with healthy carbs, fats, and protein which helps build lean muscle mass, support energy levels, and are the perfect snack!
There are so many different recipes for protein bites/protein balls and so you can never get sick of them! Chocolate, oatmeal, chocolate chip, fruity – the combinations are endless!
How to Make Protein Bites
The key to making a really delicious protein bite is a food processor. A food processor has the ability to blend all of the ingredients into a really smooth mixture and gives your protein bite and amazing texture.
You can use a blender if you don’t have a food processor, but it my experience you have to add more liquid and the end product doesn’t turn out as well.
To make these double fudge brownie batter protein bites:
- In the bowl of a food processor, add the dates, almond butter, and honey. Process until well combined. If the mixture isn’t smooth, scrape down the sides and add 1 tsp of water and continue processing. Be careful not to add too much water because it will make the dough too sticky.
- Add cocoa and protein powder and continue processing until fully combined.
Add chocolate chips to the dough and mix by hand until they are evenly distributed. Use a small cookie scoop to divide dough into 12 portions of dough. Roll each portion into a ball. Place bites in fridge to set. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
That is it! You can whip up a batch of these in just 10 minutes. Cravings be gone!

Hi Natalie
Just wanted to know, what can i substitute the chocolate whey protein for please ? As my baby is 1 yr old, and i am not planning to give her protein powder as yet.
Thank you
You can leave it out! 🙂
Is protein powder okay for 7 year olds?
We don’t recommend it as a primary source of protein, but it’s a great way to boost their intake in recipes like these!
These are really tasty, but I wasn’t able to get them to form balls at all. They were way too dry and adding water didn’t help. Did anyone else have this happen?
I’m allergic to almonds. What do you recommend using instead of the almond butter? Thank you!
Peanut butter or sunbutter would work also!
