How Do You Cook Spaghetti Squash?
There are lots of ways to cook spaghetti squash: baked, microwaved, roasted, steamed, and so many more. But there really is one way to cook it that makes it turn out amazing. And the great thing is that it is really simple:
Cut the spaghetti squash in half lengthwise from the stem end to the base, rub the inside lightly with olive oil, and roast it cut-side down.
Cooking it this way decreases the amount of moisture that gets trapped in the squash and gives you more caramelized delicious strands of spaghetti squash.
Is Spaghetti Squash Available All Year?
Yes! You can buy spaghetti squash year round in most areas. But their peak season is from October – December.
The great thing about Winter squash in general is that they store so well, that they are usually available year round. If you plan to store a spaghetti squash for a long time, the best way to store it is in a cool, dark place. A basement storage room, or cool pantry or cabinet is the perfect place.
Is Spaghetti Squash Good For You?
When most people think of spaghetti squash, they just think of a low-carb alternative to pasta. That’s true, but there’s so much nutrition packed into this veggie, too!
Spaghetti squash contains high levels of Vitamins A, C, B, and folate. It has a lot of potassium which is great for athletic kids and people who struggle with high blood pressure.
Is Spaghetti Squash Just Like Spaghetti Pasta?
Real talk. Even though spaghetti squash looks just like a noodle, it doesn’t taste exactly like a noodle. Kids are smart. If you try to get them to try something new, and you tell them one thing and they experience another, they won’t trust you anymore. Just be honest with them about how it looks like spaghetti noodles, the flavor and texture are different, but it’s still delicious!
One thing you can say to hesitant kids is that spaghetti squash has a mild taste (like zucchini or yellow squash.) It isn’t strong, or spicy. It tends to taste like whatever you cook it with.

I want to try all of these!!
I didn’t rate this recipe and I no longer eat any starchy garbage called spaghetti squash because it is 58% starch in a 2 lb, 3 lb, and 58.2% starch in a 4 lb. spaghetti squash. Starch is just a ring of glucose molecules that are broken apart by the amylase enzyme in our saliva so there’s NO Fibre Faerie Myth to save it from becoming blood sugars (from 50 to 100 mg/dL) in 15 minutes and from (160 to 250 mg/dL in 30 minutes and it affects EVERYONE the exact same way so it’s not just a concern for diabetics, pre-diabetics but it applies to everyone that eats it.
Thank you for sharing this recipie, I made this tonight, and it was amazing!! I am am going to freeze the leftover miso mixture in an ice cube tray for easy measurement in the future. For soft boiled eggs place eggs in 1″ boiling water, cover and cook for 6 minutes exactly, and they come out perfectly. Thanks again!
You are AMAZING! Thank you thank you thank you so much for this. I was considering doing the same thing and you’ve just made the task a lot less daunting.
