About Amy!

Hi! I'm Amy! I live with my husband and kids in the beautiful state of Utah. My kids are Nate: 14 years old, Erica, 12 years old, and TJ almost 10! While most of my time is spent online behind this computer while my kids are at school, the rest of the time you can find us hiking the amazing mountains of Utah, running in the streets or at races, or in the kitchen, baking up some homemade treats, bread, or making up new recipes. Wade, my handsome husband, is a registered nurse at our state prison. He loves what he does, and I love that I never have to look at my children's gaping wounds!
I graduated from BYU in Health Education in 1998 and spent 10 years working at the Utah State Department of Health, counseling state employees on ways to improve their cholesterol, body fat, blood pressure, and blood sugar. I then moved over to a program called Gold Medal Schools, which works with elementary schools directly to implement health programs and policies for the students. Just before leaving the health department I developed the Healthy Habits plate and started this blog as a way to help parents feed their kids in a simple and practical way.
Are your kids picky eaters? They used to be! When I started this blog in Sept. 2007, they were extremely picky. I was careful to only prepare meals I knew they would eat and wouldn't cause any significant fighting at the dinner table. However, blogging about new and healthy food has changed their palates. In being persistent for over 5 years, they will try almost everything I make.

About Natalie!

I grew up in Utah and love it so much that have stayed and started my family here! My husband and I love southern Utah because of all the amazing places to go hiking and canyoneering. We love to run races, travel, and my biggest passion is gardening. I graduated from Brigham Young University in Dietetics and then completed my accredited internship at Utah State University to become a Registered Dietitian. We have two girls, Amelia (4) and Sophie (2) who are my test subjects to all the crazy recipes we come up with!
I have always loved food and nutrition and have worked in a variety of areas of nutrition. My parents both grew up on farms in Idaho and so my family's eating habits growing up were definitely influenced by the whole foods mentality. Since having my own children I have realized the importance of teaching good nutrition habits young, while also making eating healthy a good experience for children.
Are your kids picky eaters? For the most part definitely not. My 2 year old will literally eat anything - even raw onions (weird). Because I started so young with them I don't think they even realize there is another way of eating. There are certain foods they don't like, but to me that is ok! Growing a garden has been a huge help in developing their love for fruits and vegetables.

About Alana
I am a full time play-at-home mom with four small children ages one to six. I know something about feeding small children and trying to get them to eat healthfully. I graduated in dietetics from Brigham Young University, did an internship with Utah State University and am currently getting my PhD in Patience. I love to cook, eat, garden, buy produce from farmer’s stands and learn about all the many fascinating aspects of food and nutrition. I’m a low meat and slow carb girl with a thing for whole grains and beans. I also like to keep my plate colorful with lots of fruits and veggies. To me, clean eating equals a healthy body and clear thinking. It is a great start to good living.
