Ingredients

  • 3 medium Granny Smith apples peeled, cored and sliced (about 1/4" thick)
  • 2 medium Honeycrisp or Gala apples peeled, cored and sliced (about 1/4" thick)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon divided
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold butter cubed
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans and walnuts optional
  • 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce (storebought or homemade) plus extra for drizzling
  • 1/2 tsp flaky or kosher salt optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, 1 tsp of cinnamon, and the lemon juice. Add 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce and stir until well coated. Pour apples into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate medium sized bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, remaining 1 tsp cinnamon, and nuts (if using). Add cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until coarse crumbs form.
  • Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples. Bake, uncovered, for 40-50 minutes or until topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly and soft.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving. Drizzle with additional salted caramel sauce and sprinkle with flaky salt.
  • Serve warm, with a scoop of ice cream if desired.
