Tips for Making Healthy Lunches

  1.  Keep it Simple.  Lunch definitely doesn’t have to be a long affair.  Simple ingredients, minimal cooking!
  2. Make it packable.  Many times we are eating lunch out and about.  During Summer its parks, swimming, hiking, lessons.  Be ready for on the go!
  3. Include the 4 main food groups.  Protein, Fruit, Veggie and Grain.  Including these elements makes it more likely to help your kids feel sustained until late afternoon/dinner and get the nutrients they need to play hard the rest of the day!
  4. Let your kids help!  They are much more likely to eat what they help prepare.  Much less wasted food for sure.
  5. Keep lunch treats for special occasions.  A lot of times we feel like we need to include a treat with lunch but fruit can definitely help curve that sweet craving instead of something sugary.
