Slushberry Drinks

Summer is the perfect time to make some fancy, tasty, and healthy kids drinks!  We call this one Slush-Berry.

This is our homemade answer to the Icee's or slushy summer drinks! So refreshing!

This sweet and slushy strawberry drink is different from a smoothie.  It’s more like a ‘slushy’, or some places call them “Icee’s”.

For this one we used:

If you are trying to get your kids to eat ‘five fruits and vegetables a day’, drinks are such an easy option.  Especially a blended drink like this one.  Although we used pineapple juice for part of it, we also used whole strawberries.

Frozen strawberries are a great choice anytime of year.  When fruit is frozen, it’s usually picked and frozen at the peak of freshness.  The nutrients are preserved when food is frozen, rather than destroyed as with cooking. We love frozen strawberries, especially because our strawberry harvest is so short. If it weren’t for frozen, we’d only be eating them one month out of the year.  And we love them so much, we’re glad we can eat them all year long.

Drinks are great in the summer when my kids do not like to slow down to eat, let alone eat something of substance.  Their friends love them too, and the cost is reasonable if you can get your berries at the height of the season and freeze your own!

Also fun for fancy drinks is to have your kids make their own drink coasters!  These are made from old CD’s (which we have PLENTY of!)

A great coaster can go well with your delicious Slushberry drink!

And for the record… this may be the last smoothie I make for awhile, because my Oster Blender has bitten the dust for good. Not even a year old, the crack on the bottom broke wide open with this last drink!

Kids love this refreshing slushberry!

This looks great! I don’t usually have to repurpose the pineapple juice, my daughter drinks it right up! BUT we are always looking for new yummy smoothies – can’t wait to give this one a try.

My 16 month-old daughter loves smoothies. It’s so funny to watch her just guzzle them down. We usually give her banana, strawberries, apple, spinach and some milk, yogurt and ice. Thanks for the new ideas!

I’ve been on a break from smoothies because of my blender too! My cuisinart from Christmas just froze up, not the motor, the actual blade. I was mad. My husband called the company and they sent us a new piece free! So I’m back in business. I will try this one!

I should call Oster. I just need a new cap thing that screws onto the bottom. They should be able to send me that! At least tide me over till I can save for an expensive one.

Thanks so much for the shout out on my CD coasters! So nice of you 🙂 And the smoothie sounds great! I second the motion for the Blendtec. I had my first one for 8 years before handing it down to my daughter and getting a new one a year ago. Hers is still going strong though!

Just made this for the kids lunch! Yummy! Looking forward to tryin more recpies. Especially the ones with veggies
