Pancake Shapes: Tic-Tac-Toe

pancake tic tac toeTo think of a food that starts with the letter X is nearly impossible!  So, we decided to make some banana pancakes instead.  My friend mentioned to me that she adds banana to her pancakes for her kids, any time she makes pancakes.  So, that is exactly what we did for these.

I used a store bought pancake mix, followed the directions, and added exactly one mashed banana for 1 cup of pancake mix.  Then, to make fun pancake shapes, we use a squeeze bottle.

When adding anything chunky to pancake mix, it is necessary to cut the top of your squeeze bottle WAY down to the bottom, to make it as wide as possible.  Otherwise, your batter will get clogged too easily and it can be very frustrating.

Then, for a little Letter X fun, you can make your own tic-tac-toe board!  I took a few pictures before Erica was really bothered that I was photographing a losing board. So, she re-arranged the board so X could win.

We love using the squeeze bottle for “alphabet” pancakes! We cook up the whole alphabet and spell their names. The best part is they don’t notice the oat bran I’ve added to the pancake mix because they are so distracted by the letters! Tyler will be excited to try tic-tac-toe, it’s just too bad he doesn’t like bananas. 😉
