Hiking Made Fun with this Treasure Hunt!

I spent the week at church Girls Camp with 180 girls ages 12-18. The week was amazing and we had so much fun.

girls camp

The first day of camp, a friend and I took 24 girls up to hike to Scout Falls on the Timpanooke trail.  I wanted to make the hike fun, so I designed a treasure hunt and planted clues along the trail for stopping points.

Clue #1:

This was actually a story I just printed from a church lesson.  Except I bolded one letter at a time throughout the story until it spelled:

When they told that clue to us, they got this picture with clue #2.  They had to walk until they saw the area that matched the picture, look inside the bag, and pull out the one item that matched the clue, as well as the next picture and clue.

Clue #2

(hint: -1)

(Do you get it? They now have to find the area that has this picture, and then decipher the clue.  They find the bag of random stuff I’ve planted and they have to pick up the object out of the bag that matches the clue, and then go to the next pictured area)

Clue #3

Today is the day

I wish it were May

Summer is here and

Swimming is near, but

Under the trees

Everyone sees, Its raining!

Clue #4

1-1, 1-2, 4-1,4-2, 6-1

Clue #5

To mix things up

makes some people crazy

Often causing delays

But straighten things out, give us a shout

And we’ll see you at the

Clue #6

Fun idea, right?  Well, I guess it was too hard for them because they didn’t spend spend much time at the stops. They just picked an item out of the bag and moved on. LOL.  Oh well, they still had an amazing time on the hike!  My kids had fun going on a few different hikes with me as we tried to find the best spot.  We love hiking!

You can do this with any hike. None of the pictures corresponded with the clues, so you can customize it to your area.

So, that is why I’ve been offline all week, and haven’t posted any of our dinners.  Everything will be back to normal for a week, and then we have another big adventure!

(If you want the answers to the clues, I’ll put them in the comments)

Clue #2: You subtract one letter from each letter in the series. So instead it spells PACIFIER. There was a pacifier to take out of the bag of random stuff.
Clue #3 The bold letters at the first of each line spell tissue (they then take the tissue)
Clue #4 the numbers correspond with first word, first letter; first word second letter, etc. Until it spells RULER.
Clue #5 rearranging the last bolded word you get FACES. there were little face magnets in the bag.
Clue #6 Scout water falls. The h-i-j,etc. were the letters “H” to “O” (H2O)

my gosh, love this! how fun 🙂

not sure if you knew, but I have not received the plate for review? Not sure if you sent, just wanted to make sure you knew it never made it to me!

Hiking provides great mental benefits. Enjoying the abundant nature of the outdoors and clearing your mind of everything for the short time you are enjoying the physical exertion of a nice hike can provide important benefits to your psychological health.
