Summer is officially in full swing and it is HOT around here! We just put in a sandbox in our backyard which my kids have been playing in constantly. The only problem is that it is right next to our house on the West side, and so the sun heats it up to about one-thousand degrees! Almost every afternoon my girls come running inside, pink-cheeked, asking for some kind of frozen treat.
Making your own pops is a great way to not only decrease the added sugar in your kids diets, but also to pack in some extra nutrients. This time around I wanted to make something really refreshing for those hot afternoons. The ingredients I chose were pineapple, carrots, a banana (to bump up the creamy smooth factor – not pictured) and Tropicana orange juice. The reason I chose Tropicana Pure Premium is because it is 100% pure Florida orange juice – no added sugar!
First thing I cut my carrots into smaller pieces.
Cut your pineapple……..I know there are a lot of ways to cut a pineapple, but this is how I do it. Cut the top and bottom off, then rotate cutting the sides off.
You don’t need to cut it into very small pieces because you are just going to blend it all up. Put everything into your blender and blend away! I didn’t measure anything – I just put in what felt right.
The carrot and the orange juice give it a beautiful orange color. I was surprised how bright it was!
Pour the mixture into your molds. Then freeze. And get ready for a super- healthy- delicious -refreshing treat.
And voila. Serve them up and sit back and feel good about this power packed treat.
Let’s talk about Tropicana Pure Premium for a minute. We love their product for a lot of reasons, but here are a few of the reasons that get us to buy it over and over:
- It is 100% pure Florida orange juice. The oranges are all grown in Florida year round so they are fresh!
- No added sugar or preservatives.
- It is packed full of nutrients! One 8 oz glass provides: Daily supply of Vitamin C, as much potassium as a medium banana, and B vitamins.
- We love the taste! Tropicana uses 2 types of oranges, Valencia and Hamlin to give its’ orange juice the best flavor.
These pops ended up with a really great flavor. Just a hint of banana with the fresh taste of citrus from the orange juice and sweet flavor of pineapple. The carrot was just a bonus!
