Every year starting in about late October I start racking my brain about what I am going to give for neighbor gifts. Last year I had an overabundance of jalapenos in my garden and so I made a TON of jalapeno jelly. It was great because my gifts were done in September! This year the jalapeno jelly didn't happen in mass quantities. Back to the drawing board. What to give? My parents neighbors for years have given hand dipped caramels in a white box tied with a beautiful ribbon. I love that gift - they are delicious melt in your mouth. But that just wasn't going to happen. Once a long time ago, one of my friends gave me some fresh Christmas potpourri. It made my house smell delicious for an entire week! So thanks to Pinterest and my friend, this Christmas neighbor gift was born.
I have a sister-in-law who is very crafty, always makes things look nice, and is super fun to be around. We decided to put our forces together and make all of our gifts together. One of the ingredients we needed was cinnamon sticks. We were making A LOT of these and so we needed a bunch of cinnamon sticks. To buy them at the store in the tiny little bottles would have cost us a fortune. So thanks to Amazon, I bought this 5 pound bag of sweet cinnamon sticks for a mere $25! Score. Let's just say I will have cinnamon around for a long time to come. I didn't quite realize how much 5 pounds really is.
My sister-in-law made cute tags with the instructions on one side and our name on the other.
We both agreed that this gift was a success and we will likely do it again in the future!
- 1 orange
- 1 lime (or lemon)
- 3-4 cinnamon sticks
- Handful of fresh cranberries
- Quarter orange and lime.
- Place in a saucepan or small crockpot with remaining ingredients.
- Cover with water.
- Simmer on stove top over low heat.
- Add water as needed.
