Best Homemade Pizza Crust
I love bread dough. Like a lot. I remember growing up, my mom would make whole wheat bread and I loved the dough so much that I would be sick from eating the dough before the bread was even done. Plus, then you get yeast burps. Ew - probably TMI. But we are all friends here right? So now that I am grown and very mature (wink) when I make bread of any form I really restrain myself from eating the dough. I usually just have one 'taste'. Well, this pizza crust is no exception to my love of dough. It is delicious. And easy.
Another of my loves is pizza. I used to be impartial to what kind of pizza I liked, but now I am definitely more particular. I am definitely anti-meat on pizza. I've never liked it. Call me crazy, but my favorite pizza topping is pineapple. It is like the ying and yang. Tangy tomato sauce, combined with salty cheese and then sweet pineapple. Heaven. Pure heaven. And that is the thing about pizza. Everyone loves something different. When you make pizza at home, you can add your own toppings to your little hearts desire. And speaking of hearts, since Valentines Day is quickly approaching, we made heart pizza. They were really pretty cute.
First get your yeast going -it should look like this after about 10 minutes. Nice and bubbly.
Mix your oil, salt, flour in with the yeast mixture. I let mine knead with a dough hook in my kitchen aid for about 5 minutes. If you don't have a mixture, knead your dough on your counter with a little flour until the dough isn't sticky.
Place it in an oiled bowl and cover. Put it in a warm place to let it rise.
It should rise for about an hour or until double in size.
Punch it down and set it on your pizza stone or pizza pan. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
If you are just making one pizza, you can roll your dough out right on your pan. We wanted to make shapes and so we rolled ours out on the counter. Roll your dough very thin. It will puff up a lot and so if you don't want a 4 inch crust, then roll it thin!
Place on a stone or pan and bake at 425 for 10 minutes (just the dough). Then put your toppings on and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the crust has started to brown.
I let my girls choose what topping they wanted on their pizza hearts and everyone was happy! They each ate their entire pizza heart because they got to help make it!
