Orange Waffles and All-Natural, Homemade, Creamy Orange Syrup

Every single day I have the same thought, "What can I incorporate more fruits and vegetables into for my children!"  Well, the other night, when I decided to make waffles for dinner, I thought, "I'm not really interested in adding berries to our waffles again, but what about oranges?"  So, it was, and these did not disappoint.

Orange waffles for kids

This was our Waffle recipe:

  • 2 1/4 Cup Whole Wheat flour
  • 1 Cup white flour
  • 5 tsps baking powder
  • 2 tsps salt
  • 4 TBLS Sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 Cup orange juice
  • 1/2 C Canola Oil
  • 2 tsps vanilla
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Mix all ingredients together, will be lumpy. Pour onto hot, greased waffle iron. Top with orange sauce and sliced oranges. Makes a lot, so freeze leftovers to put in toaster on busy mornings.

The syrup was the part I was most excited about.  You may not want to call it syrup, because it wasn't sticky and gooey like syrup, but you could call it a creamy orange sauce!

We used:

  • 2 oranges
  • 1 teaspoon date sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk

Mix in a high powered blender and pour over waffles!

Hooray for adding oranges to your life! With all that vitamin C and thirst quenching goodness, you'll wish you lived in Florida!

LOVE the idea of using OJ in the pancakes. I'm totally going to try! Also love all the RD-inspired kid-friendly recipes on your site. Beautiful photography too!
