Homemade Nut Butter: Pure Peanuts

I recently received the Twister Jar from Blendtec and I was super excited to start making baby food recipes.  But then I decided that since I still have a few months before a new babe makes his way into our house, I would experiment with some other things.  Homemade peanut butter has got to be one of the yummiest things in the world.  It is so smooth, rich and creamy.  And when you make it – it comes out warm!  And the best thing about it is that there is only one ingredient: Peanuts!

I made mine in my Twister Jar, but if you don’t have one or a high powered blender then you can definitely make it in a food processor.  It may take a little bit longer.  Put about 1 1/2 cups roasted peanuts in your jar or bowl of your food processor. And blend!  In the twister jar it only takes about 40 seconds, but in a food processor it can take up to 10 minutes to get it really smooth and creamy.

You definitely don’t need to add any extra oil.  If it doesn’t taste salty enough to you, then you can add a bit of salt.  I didn’t feel like mine needed any.  Just peanuts.  That is it!

And since I made pure peanut butter, I decided it would be delicious to try adding a few yummy spices to it.  To make this, you will want to mix:

  • 1 Teaspoon powdered cinnamon
  • 1/4 Teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 Teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 Teaspoon powdered cardamom
  • A pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

You will add these spices at the end of blending so that they incorporate throughout your peanut butter.  This is so good on toast, stirred into pancake batter, on a sandwich, with apples………yum.

Storing Homemade Nut Butter

Place your nut butter in an airtight container.  Mason jars work really well, but it can really be any container.  It is best to store in the fridge.  It will stay good if refrigerated for about 1 month.

I love peanut butter and use to eat as much, as I can. I know it’s fattening me but really I can’t resist when see such a useful recipe to do something by yourself. I’ll definitely try this simple recipe and share my opinion about yummy peanut butter. I guess I have to buy a new mixer, as old one is out of order.

Hi Natalie,,

I just tried to make homemade peanut butter today in my blendtec twister jar. It came out dry and crumbly not smooth and spreadable like yours. I used dry roasted salt free peanuts that were in their shells and we had to shell them. I don’t want to have to add oil. Do you have any suggestions as to how to make it smooth and creamy? I followed the instructions in the book and used speed seven for about 40seconds. It didn’t quite grind up totally so I used another 40 seconds. Any thoughts? You mentioned that you used roasted peanuts. Where they shelled? And did they already contain added oil? Thanks, Coup

Coup – I’m sorry it didn’t turn out for you. The peanuts that I used were pre-shelled dry roasted peanuts I bought in the bulk section at my local health food store. My suggestion to you would be that you need to blend it for longer. Typically a dry and crumbly peanut butter means that the peanuts haven’t had time to release their oils. In a regular food processor, it can take up to 10 minutes. I would try it again and blend for longer. Hopefully it works for you because it sure is delicious!

Cool, I might give it a go and let it blend longer. It was getting pretty hot after two minutes, but maybe I just needed to let it run another min.

Another question about the twister jar. After a few batches of Peanut and almond butter, I noticed that the ends of the arms on the twister lid were starting to erode a little bit. I could see little plastic fibers coming off of those arms of the twister lid. Have you noticed anything like this on yours?

Also, maybe give it a break after 2 minutes and then blender longer after it cools down. I have definitely not had that problem! I would contact Blendtec – they have great customer service. Good luck!

You find people using blenders for all sorts of things, like entertaining,
as well as everyday use. Blendtec wins the Blendtec vs Vitamix marketing fight, hands down.
As opposed to a fixed island, you can of the food processor should to save that in properly some and make a larger place
by knocking depressed a wall.
