Green beans does not have the reputation of zucchini, but it should!  If you keep picking them, they will just keep growing, and growing, and growing!  Luckily, freezing them is super easy and fast so it is ok if you grow a billion of them.

Step #4:  Package.  I use a food saver because it gets all of the air out and keeps the freezer burn to a minimum.  But if you don’t plan on freezing them for long, you can put in a regular freezer safe container or bag.

Why do you have to blanch them first? I just put my washed beans into a ziploc bag and into the freezer. Is there a reason it can’t be this simple?

Blanching stops enzyme actions which can cause loss of flavor, color and texture. Blanching also cleanses the surface of your produce from dirt and organisms, brightens the color and helps slow loss of vitamins during freezing. You don’t have to blanch, but you get a higher quality product in the end if you do.

Thank you for sharing this! I love when my questions that circulate in my head show up in my news feed ;-)! You guys are great! Thanks again!

When you blanch beans tastes better! If you put directly beans smells like freezer, at least I get that smell. I always blanch my beans…

Do you still get a good texture? my husband likes his beans more on the crisp side and not on the soft mushy side.
